Since its founding, Svaha has made waves in STEAM fashion. Their designs continue to challenge assumptions about the interests of women and girls, and they’ve evolved to offer apparel, accessories, and more inspired by science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics to both adults and kids. Luckily, that shows no signs of stopping and we have an exclusive closer look at three new designs!

The three designs are Wonderland leggings inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a Venn diagram dress where the skirt twirls to make a complete circle, and Axolotl dresses for adults and kids featuring the salamander known as the Mexican walking fish. Find out how these colorful items were created and what future products we may see soon in our interview with Svaha founder Jaya Iyer!

Why did you want to add these three new products to Svaha's offerings and what makes these a great fit for the company?
We constantly interact with our customers to get design ideas. Our customers are educators or professionals working in various fields. We had received several requests for the very unique Axolotls and since there are many people who do not even know of their existence, creating this design is our way of bringing awareness. When kids wear these clothes, they like to learn more about the Axolotls and feel good about knowing something that many other people don't know. This goes with our interest in changing the conversation from princesses to science. Venn diagrams were also a much requested pattern by many school teachers who are our customers. They love to wear our dresses to get their students interested in the subject.

Once you had the idea for these designs, why did you want to include them on these types of items instead of others?
I try to add variety to our offerings. Since Axolotls are sea creatures, we wanted to make it spring/summer suitable as most people think of beaches during this time of the year. Hence, the sleeveless dress. For the Venn diagram, I chose to make it into a twirl skirt. The main reason was because our adult dresses customers had been asking for twirl skirts on their dresses for a real long time. Since Venn diagrams already have circles, I figured that the skirt making a complete circle would go with the design.

How long have these products been in development?
From design to actually having the product available for sale on our website takes about four months. So these designs were created toward the end of last year. We are currently working on our back to school range and beyond.

How do these designs continue or grow Svaha's mission?
The main idea for our designs is to make the wearer feel wonderful about wearing them, proud of their profession, and change the dialog among kids. These designs definitely help us move our mission forward. Women who are proud mathematicians love to wear our math-themed clothing. Kids also love unique designs that teach them something new.

Will these designs be available on other items in the future?
Depending on the popularity and demand of the designs, we do put them on different products. We have brought out many dress designs on leggings, bags, ties, and other products. So, if people absolutely love these designs, we will definitely put them on other products.

Anything else about these or future releases you want to mention?
We are expanding our range and designs in a big way in the coming months. We have designs specific to various events coming up. For example, we are releasing a Yuri’s Raglan top for Yuri’s night next month, the first human to journey into space. We also launched a “We Are Spectrum” T-shirt for Neurodiversity month. We have plans for many such events. We are excited about all the new designs coming in and cannot wait to share them with everyone!
